About the White Paper:
Web services are a new breed of Web application. They are self-contained, self-describing, modular applications that can be published, located and invoked across the Web. Web services perform functions, which can be anything from simple requests to complicated business processes. Once a Web service is deployed, other applications (and other Web services) can discover and invoke the deployed service. This business service can be implemented as a stand-alone application or as a series of applications linked together by an application integration infrastructure. The attraction of Web services is simplicity, firewall neutrality and lack of dependency on the implementation technology at the service end. Web Services has huge potential for the deployment of Internet-based and service-oriented architectures. Only time will tell, but web services has the potential to become the standard for how application development is done in the 21 st century. A fundamental paradigm shift may be occurring from rapid applicationdevelopment to immediate solution construction where organizations will focus on developing web services around their core competencies. |
