 - A derived object (DO) is a file created in a Versioned Object Base (VOB). The file is created automatically, and records the result of a particular action during the building or maintenance of a program in a software configuration management (SCM) environment. The term is most often used in conjunction with an SCM product called ClearCase, which was developed by Rational Software.
In ClearCase, each derived object has a configuration record (CR) that describes the build environment, and also describes the build history for the program under development. Every derived object is assigned a unique identifier called the DO-ID.
