SOA governance

GOLD AWARD:
HP SOA Systinet 2.52
HP came into possession of the Systinet SOA registry as a result of a Russian nesting doll chain of acquisitions. Mercury Interactive bought Systinet in early 2006 and then HP bought Mercury a few months later. What it ended up with was a trailblazer in the realm of SOA governance where it rules a fiercely competitive roost in our 2007 awards.

It ranked high with the judges for SOA enablement.

"You need a registry for runtime governance and Systinet essentially built the category," one judge wrote. "HP has added tooling support that has helped it stay at the front of the pack."

HP Systinet offers full SOA lifecycle governance from service creation to test, to deployment, operations, change and retirement with a seamless set of consistent tooling. It provides an intelligent integration between the definition, mediation and enforcement of runtime policies for heterogeneous services and the governance infrastructure that can be used to associate runtime policies with their reusable business services for fully integrated design-time and runtime governance.

The UDDI v3 registry can easily support more than 200 parallel users interacting with the governance applications on a single 2-way cluster. Out-of-the-box integration with the HP SOA Manager for runtime governance includes the auto discovery of business services from Systinet into SOA manager and the auto publishing of proxy services and policies back into Systinet for association with business services for governance decisions.

Other feature include: graphical navigation of services and their artifacts; flexible taxonomy-based searching and browsing, including the ability to see the number of artifacts associated with classifications and taxonomies; Systinet Workbench and its robust collection of customizable reports for SOA adoption and governance; integration with Business Activity Center for SOA so that runtime SLA information can be associated with business services for consumption decisions.

The system of record registry typically starts at $55,000. The variation with more management tools typically starts at $110,000.
