Attachmate Corp., Bellevue, Wash., has announced its new mainframe connector tool based on service-oriented architecture (SOA) that it says makes legacy assets reusable as services for new application development.

MyExtra Smart Connector Mainframe Edition v4.0.2 allows direct access to mainframe data sources and uses standard SQL queries to join data across disparate systems. It also offers native, transactional access to CICS and IMS/TM applications, Attachmate said.

"Customers can encapsulate mainframe assets as Web services, access the mainframe on a mid-tier server or choose direct connection to the back end," said Markus Nitschke, Attachmate's vice president for marketing and product management.
