Grand Central Communications Inc., San Francisco, has released an updated version of its network-based business process integration service that includes a new public directory of available Web services.

In addition to the Business Services Directory, Grand Central 4.0 features self-service provisioning, Web-based business process orchestration tools and expanded support for connectivity protocols, the company said.

Grand Central said that its Business Services Directory allows businesses to publish their services to customers, partners and business units. The directory is managed by Grand Central's staff but providers of Web services also have the ability to define their own classification categories and branding. Businesses can also syndicate the directory to incorporate it into their own Web services offering, Grand Central said.

To provide business process orchestration on a network, Grand Central also created a version of the Business Process Execution Language for Web services (BPEL4WS) called BPELe, or BPEL for everything. BPEL4e allows BPEL processes to be accessed from a variety of environments, including EDI, FTP-enabled end points, SAP applications and SOAP-enabled end points.

Businesses can try Grand Central's Business Services Network for free if they stay below a 25MB of data per month, the company said.
