Forum Systems Inc. has formed a partnership with Captus Networks Corp. to offer a joint Web services intrusion detection and prevention package.

The deal will combine Salt Lake City-based Forum Systems' Forum Sentry 1500 series of XML gateways with the Captus IPS 4000 series, a policy-based solution for securing and managing IP networks that is made by Woodland, Calif.-based Captus Networks.

The two companies said that the combined solution offers a layered security approach to mitigate information-borne threats delivered via XML-based communications.

In related news, Forum said that The Phoenix Companies, a Hartford, Conn.-based financial management organization, will use the Forum Sentry platform as part of an information gateway to allow third parties to conduct business with The Phoenix Companies. Specifically, the gateway will support a variety of business partner relationships by allowing them to transact business with Phoenix via PGP-encrypted XML over the Internet (HTTP) or FTP.
