Liberty releases ID standards for Web services |

The Liberty Alliance consortium today released the second round of its federated identity standards for the Liberty Federation Framework and the Liberty Identity Web Services Framework.
The San Francisco-based group also announced today that it has created a Services Group for the third phase of the initiative in order to develop service interface specifications (SIS) for the organization's Web services framework.
The new Liberty Web Services Framework is designed to provide a means of delivering identity-based Web services. Liberty said that because its specifications are built on existing industry standards such as SAML, SOAP, XML and WS-Security, they can be deployed and supported in any environment.
The first two available service interface specifications released today include an ID-Personal Profile that defines a standard template for basic registration information so organizations have a common language to speak to each other and offer interoperable services. The second is an ID-Employee Profile that defines similar information but targets internal employees.
The final Liberty Phase 2 specifications are now available for download to be used for Liberty-enabled product and service development.
The Liberty Alliance Project, which has 150 member companies, was formed in September 2001 to develop open standards for federated network identity management and identity-based services.
