Oracle Corp., Redwood Shores, Calif., and three other companies say they have successfully demonstrated interoperability between four independent implementations of reliable Web services based on the Web Services-Reliability specification.
Oracle and its testing partners -- Fujitsu Ltd., Hitachi Ltd. and NEC Corp. -- jointly submitted WS-Reliability to the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) in January. The companies said the demonstration of the WS-Reliability specification enabled four separate Web service applications to reliably exchange messages over an unreliable network test bed that simulated message loss, duplication and delays.
Organizers said the demonstration, which was held in Bedford, Mass., at a meeting of the OASIS Web Services Reliable Messaging Technical Committee, highlighted two functions of the WS-Reliability specification: "guaranteed delivery," in which a sender automatically resends a message if no acknowledgement is received, and "duplicate elimination," in which the receiving application eliminates duplicates of the same message.
