Several software vendors, including Microsoft Corp. and Oracle Corp., have lined up to pledge that their products will support the new Web services interoperability guidelines mapped out last week by the Web Services Interoperability Organization.

The WS-I's Basic Profile 1.0 offers interoperability guidance for SOAP 1.1, WSDL 1.1, UDDI 2.0, XML 1.0 and XML Schema.

Following are a sampling of the vendors and their Web services products that claim to meet Basic Profile's guidelines:

Oracle. Oracle has released a new sample application to help developers test the interoperability of software and Web services, based on Basic Profile. The sample application, which is an early release of a supply chain application for the Oracle9i Application Server, implements a real-world supply chain scenario by modeling the interactions between multiple Web storefronts, retail warehouses and manufacturers. Oracle said developers will be able to test the interoperability of Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE)-based Web services deployed on the Oracle9i Application Server with Web services deployed on other platforms such as .NET and J2EE application servers from other vendors. The sample application is available for free on the Oracle Technology Network.

Microsoft. "Microsoft applauds the ratification of the Basic Profile 1.0, and sees it as a significant milestone, taking the industry a step closer to ensuring Web services are able to interoperate across heterogeneous systems," Microsoft said in a statement released last week. "With companies across the industry providing support for the Basic Profile 1.0, such as Microsoft's support in technologies such as Visual Studio .NET and the .NET Framework, we expect the momentum to continue towards the industry's goal of interoperability."

Mindreef. In conjunction with the Basic Profile release, Mindreef came out with a WSDL interoperability checker, including rules for Basic Profile 1.0, in the latest release of its SOAPscope diagnostic tools. Mindreef said SOAPscope 2.0 automates the process of visualizing, analyzing, experimenting and comparing WSDL documents.

Parasoft. Parasoft, a maker of error prevention software, said its new Parasoft SOAPtest 2.1 offering supports Basic Profile 1.0 by testing both Web services clients and servers. Parasoft SOAPtest is an automated error prevention product for Web services and enterprise applications built with SOAP. SOAPtest automatically performs server functional testing, load testing and client testing, according to Parasoft.

Commerce One. "Commerce One's Conductor composite process management platform will support the WS-I Basic Profile version 1.0 in order to enable the interoperability required to efficiently create, manage and evolve standards-based composite business processes between distributed systems and partners," said David Burdett, Commerce One's director of standards strategy, in a statement. "Commerce One will also use Conductor's rules-driven registry approach to interoperability to support future versions of the WS-I Basic Profile and new standards specifications yet to come."

Flamenco Networks. Flamenco, a maker of Web Services management software, said it will incorporate support for the WS-I Basic Profile 1.0 into all of its products.
