CrossWorlds announces support for EJB components

CrossWorlds Software, a business integration software provider based in Burlingame, Calif., has announced support of Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) component technology. EJB component technology enables CrossWorlds' customers to leverage interoperability within application server environments to reduce time-to-market for creating critical applications and to benefit from an overall increase in developer productivity, the company said.

Applications developers can now execute CrossWorlds supported business process components as Enterprise JavaBeans, as CrossWorlds bean components can be accessed from any EJB compliant application server regardless of operating system, the company said. EJB technology reduces the complexity of developing N-tier enterprise class applications by providing application developers with the ability to process business information through standards-based, reusable business-process components. This in turn reduces the overall cost of development while speeding up time-to-market of new IT projects, said CrossWorlds.

Metastorm releases e-work process integration technology

Metastorm Inc. has released e-work Accelerator for Microsoft BizTalk, a product Metastorm said will enable businesses to integrate e-work processes with both internal applications and those of trading partners.

Microsoft BizTalk provides a framework for data to be shared between companies via the Web using XML. The e-work Accelerator is designed to enable exchange of data between e-work processes and other software applications, via the Microsoft BizTalk Server, said Metastorm. The e-work Accelerator can monitor and act upon incoming BizTalk documents and use these to update information in an e-work process. The e-work Accelerator provides the capability to establish a register of trading partners and the documents that e-work will exchange with them, according to Severna Park, Md.-based Metastorm. The registration of the trading partner generates an encrypted partnership key, which partners embed in their documents.

FIX and SWIFT to pursue single financial messaging standard

The international organizations FIX Protocol Ltd. (FPL) and SWIFT said they have announced an agreement in which they will seek convergence of their respective messaging protocols. The agreement, which centers on the adoption of ISO 15022 XML as a common industry standard, will, for the first time, provide a link between the front and back office operations of securities institutions, according to a news release. This link will enable the flow of data across the entire transaction chain.

Under the terms of the agreement, FPL and Brussels-based SWIFT will actively support the efforts of the ISO Working Group 10, which aims to evolve the current ISO 15022 scheme for securities message types to a single standard, expressed in XML. The agreement leverages the expertise of FPL in the pre-trade/trade domain and SWIFT in the post-trade domain. Both organizations will work to develop mapping documentation to support the industry's migration to ISO 15022 XML and the coexistence of FIX, ISO 15022 and ISO 15022 XML.

ISO 15022 XML is expected to be available by early 2002.
