Platform Computing improved access speeds in its SOA grid product Symphony this month. Targeted at the financial services industry, Symphony 5 helps lower the latency caused by large data sets by placing workloads on systems that are physically close to the required data. In version 5, symphony improved support for multi-core servers and tweaked its scheduler to predict what data nodes certain tasks will need to access and make them available faster. "We've married our compute grids with those distributed data caches." Said David Warm, CTO of Platform's financial services platform. "The scheduler takes a look at the tasks and the task will now tell us it needs a certain piece of data."
