Boston, MA--The upcoming ECMAScript 5 standard was the lead topic for a panel discussion on Monday at The Ajax Experience 2009, held in Boston. The new JavaScript standard is the first in ten years and has many important updates, including improved JSON support and standard library enhancements.

Web application security was also discussed. Joe Walker, creator of Direct Web Remoting, acknowledged that security has improved, but developers are still at risk. He presented some of the most frequent security exploits found in Ajax applications, and gave tips on how to easily fix and prevent them.

Looking forward, the Web may benefit from a stronger sense of community. During a presentation on using and offering data on the Web, Yahoo's Christian Heilmann expressed a hope that more widely available APIs and broadly adopted standards will allow programmers to cut workload times. Said Heilmann: "Why make a developer spend days in making a map to the office when you can just use the Google Maps API link?"
