Eclipse group releases Swordfish, an open-source ESB

This week at EclipseCon, the Eclipse Foundation formally released Swordfish, an enterprise service bus (ESB) based on OSGi. It joins a host of other open ESBs, including OpenFuse, Mule, and others.

Included in Swordfish are a runtime Service Registry that uses policies to match service consumers and service providers based on their capabilities and requirements; an extensible Monitoring Framework that manages and tracks events; and a Remote Configuration Agent that makes it possible to launch distributed servers from a central configuration repository without the need to touch individual installed server instances.

"The first release of Swordfish is a great example of the progress that is being made to develop our runtime technology portfolio. Over the next year I expect we will see more, interesting runtime technology built on Eclipse," Eclipse Foundation Executive Director Mike Milnikovich said in a prepared statement.
