Web 2.0 generally, but blogs particularly, continued to be one of the big stories in 2008; actually, less a story than the way the stories are told. Blogs today are often the main way news is conveyed. In the SOA segment especially, 'thought leaders' have used the medium to shape the way SOA is discussed.
Did you know SearchSOA.com sports its own blog? It is called SOA Talk, and that is what it is, although we take occasion from time to time to touch on topics that border of SOA, while still adhering to the general task of providing info on enterprise application integration.
Featured on SOA Talk recently is a discussion of BPM maven Bruce Silver's comments on BPMN, a notation for Business Process Management that is now at an important juncture. Speaking of mavens, the blog recently posted a riff on patterns guru Martin Fowler's take on SOA governance repositories. A human-centric registry known as 'the Humane Registry' is one of Fowler's areas of interest these days. There is also material covering mock objects and WSDL dialects courtesy of a conversation with Frank Cohen, founder of Push to Test.
Here are some of the items that made 2008 what it was for SOA. The year kicked off with ''Oracle buys BEA, but the app dev, SOA suites still conflict'' telling the tale of the end game in Oracle's long pursuit of BEA. There was a story that brought in notes from several top SOA bloggers under the banner ''So how SOA are ESBs?'' In the summer there was ''The dog days of SOA''.
