Real-Time loading comes to Sybase analytical data engine |

Sybase announced Sybase IQ Real-Time Loading Solution, a combined software and services offering for continuous loading of real-time data into the Sybase IQ analytics server.
According to a Sybase representative, some customers use IQ as an operations report server. They compare operations data with historic data.
"What people want is to capture changes in a database immediately as they happen. They want to get rid of any latency for operations reporting," said Pete Benesh, senior product marketing manager, Sybase.
To create the new software, the company packaged up several existing technologies and coupled that with a special methodology for getting people up and running with continuous uploading of operations changes into Sybase IQ. The IQ repository server captures changes, and the company's PowerDesigner data modeler is used to auto-generate necessary job scheduling scripts.
IQ has always been unique. Used primarily for data warehousing, its structure provides much faster performance than most data warehouses. Its speed derives from its use of a column-based approached to storing data versus the row-based scheme familiar in relational data bases. In May, a Sybase IQ analytics engine on a Sun SPARC Enterprise M9000 server set a Guinness World Record for world's largest data warehouse. It was sized at 1 Pbyte.
This fast upload capability is intended to play well as part of the so-called 'real-time' enterprise, where the very latest data is crucial to effective decision making. It should not be confused with emerging streaming data architectures, where a pool of in-memory data is constantly queried in order to discover patterns of behavior. In fact, Sybase has yet another favor of Sybase IQ that plays to those streaming needs. The company's Risk Analytics Platform addition allows you to do analytics on continuously streaming data.
