The proposed Reusable Asset Specification (RAS) was recently approved in an initial vote of the Object Management Group (OMG) consortium and is now in a 90-day comment period.
A final vote of OMG's Architecture Board and Platform Technical Committee is expected after this period, according to LogicLibrary Inc., a member of the panel working on the standard.
The RAS defines a standard way to package reusable software assets.
"The RAS effectively documents components and services to help build SOAs, save money and support key business initiatives," said Brent Carlson, vice president of technology at LogicLibrary, a Pittsburgh-based maker of asset management tools.
