Iona touts .NET access to CORBA systems

Staff report

Iona Technologies Inc., Waltham, Mass., said that its new Orbix 6.1 integration platform now offers native access for Microsoft .NET applications to CORBA-based systems.

With Orbix, developers can use .NET to build, integrate and deploy CORBA-inclusive applications without the need for new hardware, Iona said. The company said that the new management architecture in version 6.1 is designed to let customers control and monitor a Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) infrastructure using management software platforms such as IBM Tivoli.

Orbix version 6.1 also adds smart card support, bi-directional GIOP, improved connection scalability using Java NIO and performance data logging, Iona said. The product is generally available on Friday.
