Software AG Inc., a systems software provider based in Reston, Va., has announced the general availability of XML Mediator, a tool for building XML information exchange hubs.
XML Mediator manages XML interactions that discover relevant information and uses that information to trigger behavior, such as routing documents or messages to an appropriate destination or transforming the content to other XML formats or presentation styles such as HTML, PDF or WML.
The product provides a framework for addressing integration challenges when dealing with diverse XML vocabularies by discovering patterns in information, translating it to a more familiar terminology and transcribing it into some standardized form.

O'Reilly releases new books on Java, .NET
Sebastopol, Calif. publishing house O'Reilly & Associates has released a pair of new titles; "Java Enterprise in a Nutshell" second edition and "VB.NET Language in a Nutshell" second edition.
Authors Jim Farley, William Crawford, and David Flanagan explain in "Java Enterprise in a Nutshell" that enterprise computing is simply a synonym for distributed computing: computation done by groups of programs interacting over a network. The book provides tutorials and quick reference material for developers looking to master the intricacies of building ever-more complex applications with Java and keep up with the new APIs, tools, capabilities and pitfalls in Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE).
In "VB.NET Language in a Nutshell," the authors approach the VB.NET platform as an entirely new language with in-depth information along with the details for each language element. The new edition of the book includes a CD version of the book's reference section that programmers can install into Microsoft Visual Studio .NET's help, allowing developers to access in-depth information without interruption.
"Java Enterprise in a Nutshell" second edition is available from O'Reilly for $39.95. "VB.NET Language in a Nutshell" second edition is also available through O'Reilly for $44.95.
