Reactivity reaches gigabit speed with XOS upgrade

Reactivity Inc. sensed a need for speed for its XOS XML operating system software and responded today with the release of version 4.1 which for the first time this gigabit Ethernet throughput. The Web services security and acceleration vendor said the throughput is an industry benchmark.

XOS 4.1 runs on Reactivity's Gateway 2400 Series appliance and now offers several hundred to 2,000 megabits-per-second of throughput, compared to 10 in previous iterations, said CTO John Lilly.

"This takes performance off table for anyone," Lilly said. "Filling up a Gigabit pipe for Web services is way more than anyone needs. This puts us in the lead with 5X to 10X performance gains.

Network Testing Labs conducted the benchmark testing, and said performance records were also set for message parsing, cryptographic functions and schema validation.

New features to version 4.1 include XML schema management enhancements like bundling that enable different schema documents to be uploaded to the appliance and managed together. Version 4.1 also supports the four interoperability scenarios in the Web Services-Security specification, including SAML token profile and audience restriction. New SOAP header management features were added to 4.1 enabling enterprises to require, reject, filter and transform SOAP headers in any namespace.
