Above All, NEON turn mainframe apps into Web services

Vendors Above All Software and NEON Systems announced a combined offering that will help mainframe shops turn their applications into Web services.

Above All Software and NEON Systems Inc. announced a partnership this week where the two vendors will sell a bundle

of their respective offerings to help mainframe shops turn their technology into composite applications.

The bundle will include Above All Studio, which enables developers to quickly assemble composite applications, and Shadow z/Services from NEON Systems. Shadow z/Services converts mainframe CICS, IMS and IDMS applications into Web services.

Shadow z/Services was announced this week by NEON Systems. The software allows developers to expose mainframe application logic and application presentation environments as Web services. Features include single-step configuration, dynamic introspection and parsing of applications, microflow orchestration, a SOAP parser, support for existing mainframe security infrastructures, and support for complex data structures.

NEON counts cruise line Holland America as a customer. Holland America uses Shadow z/Services as an interface to its voice response system that allows customers to check reservation information over the phone.

Above All Studio requires no additional programming. Its visual tools reduce time to market for new applications and integration costs. It assembles new composite apps according to pre-defined business processes.
