How does SOA fit in with REST?

It doesn't, really. In one important sense, they're in direct
opposition, as the distinguishing feature of SOA is that services
expose service-specific interfaces, whereas the distinguishing
feature of REST is that services expose generic interfaces.
The W3C Web Services Architecture working group has stated that REST
is an instance of an SOA, where the interfaces happen to be GET, PUT,
POST, etc... While technically accurate, this isn't a very useful
characterization for the purposes of comparing SOA and REST in my
opinion, because it disregards the value of the properties induced by
the additional constraints of REST.
