Where will BPM play a role in the technology stack?

BPM, or business process management, is most recently defined in the context of understanding and improving the way people and applications work together. The definition is provided by software vendors, consultants, business analysts and others evangelizing the benefits of BPM. These benefits focus on efficiencies realized when companies are able to identify individual elements of work and streamline joint efforts.

The Web services technology stack, which includes Web service publishing and Web service orchestration layers, provides a bottom-up enabling foundation for delivery on the BPM promise. Once processes are described, systems can be assigned and aligned to support them. At the same time, better tools based on the Web services technology stack will make the above challenge easier and more processes will become automated and utilized within a BPM scheme going forward.
