Integration between transaction processing outside the firewall and back office systems is very important. Whether or not you call that EAI is relative to your point of view. While most systems are not integrated today, it makes sense that after the first wave of development, which concerned the Web sites, the second wave will be about integration. The timing for this work will depend upon such factors as the economy, the volume of business and the perceived cost of deployment and ROI.
