Is it good to discuss elements of EA with business users - for example should one let them know if the group is looking to apply TOGAF or other architecture frameworks to a product line?

It's important to remember that enterprise architecture provides best practices for both business as well as IT, and helps organizations align IT with the business. As a result, it's essential to get business users on board with those aspects of EA that are relevant to them. Frameworks like TOGAF and Zachman provide guidance for business people, and EA approaches like SOA also include business-centric best practices as well. The challenge centers more on insuring the relevance of the conversation to the audience at hand than the applicability of the framework.
