The first thing you should do, when making a decision like this, is perform
a thorough analysis of your customers' needs. If your customer is the
industry in general, perform a thorough market analysis to determine which
technology best fits your business goals.
Once you have completed an analysis, you will be able to determine the
hardware and operating system requirements that you must meet. With this
information, you will be able to determine the platform that more closely
fits. This will allow you to make a decision as to whether you should base
your product on Java/J2EE, .NET, CORBA, JCL, a combination of these or roll
your own from scratch. Also, check with industry experts to determine if
you can leverage work that has been done by others.
