An architecture that connects various silos throughout the organization can simulate the experience of a single integrated system. By creating a common services layer that is accessed through a common portal interface, features such as single sign-on, role based access to systems, and a common look and feel are achieved. This will breathe new life into legacy systems and increase usability and maintainability while allowing new development to take place at the portal application layer. Over time, legacy systems can be replaced by new systems as budget allows.
